Blendtec Total Blender

February 9, 2011 8:11 pm

Just received our new Blendtec Total Blender in the mail today.    The unit is smaller than the Vitamix 5200 and fits nicely under the counter.  It looks hi-tech compared to our Vitamix.

Only had a chance to use it once to blend baby food for our twin daughters.

Ingredients were:

  • Cooked Brown Rice
  • Cooked Chicken Breast
  • Cooked Egg Yellows
  • Raw Banana
  • Avacdao

When blending the above ingredients with our Vitamix it requires the use of the Plunger (which I am not to fond of)   From watching the Blendtec Road Show at Costco they state that no push stick / plunger is required for the Blendtec.  However we had horrible blend experience.   The puree got very frothy (airy) in the beginning and just would not blend.  We had to take the jar off, get the air out and blend again.  We did this about 10 times before just gave up and move the mix over to the Vitamix which than did a beautiful job blending the ingredients into a puree.

I have mixed feelings if I should keep this blender now.   Looking at the build quality of the blending jar you can tell the blade / bearing assembly of the Blendtec isn’t as strong as the Vitamix.

Will try to do a more indepth review later.
