IPS - Diaper and Shoe Photo Shoot Complete

March 24, 2007 12:43 am

I really like the Fujiflm S5 Pro.  It’s an excellent body with an excellent sensor (400% dynamic range).    The only thing I don’t like about the camera is the lack of a built in vertical grip.   Using such a short camera makes me feel like I am going to drop the camera.

Here are two shots from my IPS Diaper and Shoe Photo Shoot.

The white background isn’t a solid white (#FFFFFF).  Hopefully some studio lights in the future will help me correct this.

I should have taken the same shots with the S2 but I completely forgot and had taken down the back drop and put the flashes away.   I will next time.

Rotomaster Products

Rotomaster Photoshoot Complete.  It was difficult taking pictures of some of these products mainly because I didn’t have enough light sources.   Overall I’m quite happy with the results.  I think I am going to invest in some additional lights soon.

Fujifilm S5 Pro

March 13, 2007 10:27 pm

After playing with the Fujifilm S5 Pro last weekend and reading more reviews online, I am really starting to like this camera.  I am of weary about buying Fujifilm products as my S2 has sensor problems, but the S3 has performed very well for many people.    The S5 will be the 5th-6th generation of the Fujifilm SuperCCD Sensor and this time the body is directly from Nikon.   The high ISO performance is excellent and it’s faster than the previous Fujifilm DSLR.  The only down size is the price.  At $2159.99 CND it is more than the Nikon D200 and only features a 6 MP sensor.   Maybe wait a few months and wait for the price to decline.

The Camera Store

Looking for photography equipment and supplies?   I would recommend you purchase from The Camera Store in Calgary, AB.  Their service was excellent.  Staff was very friendly yet not pushy.  It wins hands down compared to anything that Vancouver has to offer in terms of service and price.   Also you save yourself 7% PST if you purchase from Calgary and have it shipped to Vancouver or any other province.

If you are looking to purchase a hard to find Fujifilm S5 Pro DSLR they have a few in stock.  The colors and DR look incredible, but I am still concerned about the quality of longevity of product as from past experience of Fuji Products and Service.

Any Photographers Out There?

Calling for all photographers out there with studio experience.  I can’t decide between a two and four light setup.  What do you think is better for product photography?

I know there is a big difference between a package with four lights and a package with two lights.  What I’m afraid of is that with a two light setup there isn’t enough light to evenly light a 4 - 5′ table full of products.    Which brings me to modifiers.  Are soft boxes really necessary?

So many choices out there.  Where do you start?
